Dreifaltigkeitskirche (Trinity Church) in Salzburg on a winter day

The Dreifaltigkeitskirche or Trinity Church is the core of a Baroque ensemble of buildings erected in the 17th century on today's Makartplatz. The architect in charge was Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, one of Austria's most famous architects of the Baroque age. Other churches of his in Salzburg include the Markuskirche, the Krankenhauskirche St. Johannes and the Kollegienkirche. The Trinity Church serves the local seminary for priests-to-be of the Archdiocese of Salzburg. The associated Secundogeniturpalast palace contains facilities for these students. Another palace, the Primogeniturpalast, was also part of the ensemble - but destroyed; today, only its facade is preserved. Note also Mozart's Wohnhaus (living place) and the birthplace of the physicist Christian Doppler on the same square; as well as the Salzburger Landestheater, the local town theatre.
