Salzburg Photos: Ice Landscape on River Salzach
return to "winter
photos 2"
The River Salzach carries too much water to freeze even in cold winters. However,
there are often areas in the periphery of the river bed where the torrent is
weak and a layer of ice can form. This picture was taken just in between the
Staatsbrücke and the
Mozartsteg in a particularly cold winter. The Salzach River
is a lifeline and a uniting band that runs through most of
Salzburg Province. Starting from the city, you can cycle either to
Hallein and beyond or northwards
to pretty little towns such as Oberndorf. The immediate surroundings of Salzburg
contain sections of the Salzach River that are great for walks and serve as
important recreational areas for locals.
