Kapuzinerkloster or Capuchin Monastery

The Kapuzinerkloster or Capuchin Monastery is a plain building sitting on a cliff of the Kapuzinerberg Mountain. It dates back to the 17th century and is not open to the general public. As quite an active monastery, the monks engage in care for the poor and various religious and cultural activities. The pretty houses in the lower part of the photo are situated along the Steingasse Lane. The road between these houses and the river was only built after the river banks had been secured and the Salzach was trained. Before then, there was not enough space between the river and the burgher houses of the Steingasse.
