Salzburg Photos: Old Town (Altstadt)
return to "summer
photos 2"
The Old Town of Salzburg (in German called Altstadt) as seen from the
Kapuzinerberg. Taken on a very productive photo outing in early 2008. Note (again)
the snow white mountain tops of Untersberg (right of the castle) and the
Hagengebirge / Göll Massif (left of the castle). The building in the foreground
was once home to the Cafe Corso, whose owner contributed to the construction of
the Mozartsteg. This Art Nouveau or Jugendstil bridge can be seen in the picture.
It was opened in 1902 and is a pedestrian and cyclist bridge. People who wanted
to use the Mozartsteg had to pay a little fee at the toll house at one side of
the bridge (visible in the picture). The big, white building that dominates the
houses on the other side of the Salzach is the
Neue Residenz, the home of the
Salzburg Museum.
