Salzburger Dom Cathedral from Kapitelplatz Square

The first Salzburger Dom, the cathedral of the city, was built on the ruins of the Roman city Iuvavum in Romanesque style. The current Dom was built under the rule of Prince Archbishop Wolf-Dietrich von Raitenau, the father of Salzburg′s Baroque splendour. Wolf-Dietrich had grown up in Rome, so he knew state-of-the-art developments in art and architecture. Once he became Prince Archbishop of Salzburg, he started to transform the city into the Baroque gem that it still is today. This picture was taken from the Kapitelschwemme well on Kapitelplatz.
