Salzburg Photos: Christmas Market
return to "winter
photos 2"

The biggest, most famous and most popular
Christmas market of Salzburg: The one
at the Salzburger Dom Cathedral. Once confined to the Domplatz (the square right
in front of the cathedral), it has long expanded to spread on the
Residenzplatz
(shown here) and seemingly even the Alter Markt. The Christmas Market opens in
late November and is a popular meeting place for locals and tourists alike until
Christmas. This picture was taken in the early afternoon, when most visitors
were locals; tourists are taking over later in the afternoon and evening. The
pink church on the left is the Michaelskirche, the tower on the right is the
Neue Residenz and contains the Salzburg Carillion (Glockenspiel). The building
is home to the Salzburg Museum.
