Salzburg Photos: View on Salzburg's City Centre
return to "winter photos"
This panoramic view on the Altstadt or Old Town of Salzburg was taken
from the look-out platform at the base of the
Capuchin Monastery. It is one of
the best places for looking at Salzburg and a very rewarding place for taking
pictures all year round. This photo was taken in
December, on a gloomy day; note
that on brighter days, you can see an impressive chunk of Alps, spreading into
Tyrol, Bavaria in Germany, Salzburg's southern provinces such as
Pongau and
Pinzgau, as well as Upper Austria and the
Salzkammergut area. Other great
look-outs can be found on the Mönchsberg and at the central tower of the
Salzburg Castle (Festung Hohensalzburg).
Many of these look-outs can be accessed
rather safely all year round; only some sections of the hills might get closed
during winter.
