ORF Landesstudio Salzburg

The ORF is Austria′s National Broadcast and maintains a headquarter in Vienna as well as regional centres in all federal provinces. These "Landesstudios" were designed by one of Austria′s most successful architects, Gustav Peichl, who is also known as a cartoonist. All Landesstudio buildings look exactly the same in all provinces to allow an easy flow between the offices.

Salzburg′s ORF Landesstudio is in the Nonntal area, it can be seen if you follow our "Hellbrunner Allee rambling" tour in the area around the Natural Science Faculty and Schloss Freisaal Castle. It is circular and arranged in a very stereotypic fashion: the offices for the different sections (radio, TV, various projects) are in the same part of the building as they are in the other Landesstudios.

The building was opened in 1972 and widely recognised for being both functional and aesthetic. Despite of being a very characteristic building and from the "Concrete Age", the ORF Landesstudio Salzburg blends neatly into its environment. It is not really open to the public, but you can arrange a recommendable guided tour if you want to go there in a group. Usually in German only, though.
